Centre of the Cell’s free Youth Scheme offers a range of activities and opportunities for 14-19 year olds interested in a career in science and healthcare.
Step 1 of 3
By filling in your details in this first section, you agree to sign up to the Youth Scheme monthly newsletter newsletter (which you can unsubscribe from at any point) and for us to hold the data from this section on file for as long as you are a member of the scheme. We will also keep track of any activities you take part in during your membership, and feedback you provide about these activities.
When your membership ends, we will remove any identifiable data (unless you agree for us to keep it in the final section of this form).
For further information, including on your rights, please see https://www.qmul.ac.uk/privacy. The data controller for data collected on this form is Queen Mary University of London.
This part of the form helps us understand why you are joining the scheme, and how you feel about your future study and career options. It helps us measure how effective the scheme is, and isn't designed to test your commitment or interest in STEM - we welcome members with all interest levels so please answer as honestly as possible (you don't need to impress us!).
We will use this data and annual surveys, as well as feedback from individual activities you take part in while on the scheme, to measure how effective the scheme is. It is important we get this information to ensure we keep getting funding each year, but if you'd prefer not to answer some or all of these questions, just skip over them - you can still join the scheme!
We'll keep this data for as long as you are a member of the scheme, but once you leave we will remove anything that identifies the answers as yours.
Why are you asking me for this? Collecting this information helps us to evaluate how good our activities are at helping young people to achieve their full potential at school and find out more about university.
What will you do with this data? We will store this information on a secure database until you are aged 30. In the short term, we will use it to help us assess if we are reaching young people from backgrounds that are currently underrepresented in universities. Once you leave school/college we will send your data to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA). They will tell us if you went to university, if you finished your degree and if you found a job at the end of your studies. We won’t ever use your data to send you ‘spam’ emails.
Who will you share it with? Only to enable the research and evaluation described above, your data may also be shared with the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), the Department for Education (DfE) or HESA, and our partners including Higher Education Access Tracker service subscribers and the National Data Service. We won’t ever share your data with companies for marketing purposes.
Will my data be safe? Yes, very safe. There are strict laws to make sure that we protect your personal details; we comply with the Data Protection Act and as of May 2018 the General Data Protection Regulation.
Can I change my mind? Yes. You have the right to ask us to delete your data at any time, just email youthmembers@centreofthecell.org to do this. You also have the right to ask us what data we hold about you.
I’m still not sure… Please ask us about anything that concerns you or that is unclear. If you are really not comfortable with sharing your data, that is completely fine. You can still participate in our activities. Just choose 'no' to the first question and skip the rest of them.
